Fort Pozzi Alti mt. 1879 Trial n. 281/268

The path suggested does not present particular difficulties, except for a willingness to walk and being in reasonably good shape; it runs to a length of about 7.5 km. We start from the Tonale Pass sports field taking the “fitness trail” n. 281, at the intersection with the forest road we descend to take the trail of the “Raseghe”. From here, the 268 leads us to the Ponte degli Alpini (the Bridge of the Alpines) descending in altitude. Once we've crossed the bridge, the trail continues and winds through a thick and varied wood, becoming flat and heading east. The trail then slopes up again regaining altitude; after a final incline we reach, with a tiny deviation, the Pozzi Bassi. Here one enjoys an excellent view and we can take a break to admire the panorama and the underlying valley.
After resting for a bit, we go back the way we came to return on the 268 that leads to the final destination of Fort Pozzi Alti. The arrival at the Fort will be full of emotions, here the view takes in the Tonale Pass, Vermiglio, the Valle di Sole and in the distance the reddish colors of the Dolomites are outlined against the sky. Visiting the Fort you will learn about the dynamics of the defense of the border in past times and glimpse the other fortifications of the valley.
Here, experiences hikers in top shape can take Trail n. 233, which is initially easy, then increasingly steep and, with about 1h and 30 minutes of hiking, reaches the “Francesco Denza” refuge in front of the giant: The Presanella. Your efforts will be amply rewarded by the emotions that this peak gives to whoever gazes upon it. If you are tired there's nothing to worry about, the legendary Presanella can reached with another hike, leaving from the “Baita Velon” with Trail n. 233 or going by car to the Forte Pozzi. The return trip to the Tonale Pass will be same route as the climb up.
